Exams, exams and exams...

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have an examination tomorrow. The paper is CMFAS m5(just wanna sound chime). The irony though, is I met with several(and I really mean several, not a couple) obstacles in my attempt to register for my ACCA exams(which is of course my priority), therefore hindering my preparation for the m5 exam. Then do you remember I mentioned something like I cannot understand the text? Well, that is because then, I was happily blasting my nano, flipping the pages and exercising selective reading WHILE READING ACTS AND LEGISLATION. Or in layman term, law.

The thing about these laws, acts or legislations is that they are written with an intent to complicate otherwise simple concise statements. These people("lawmakers"?) started with a statement, then substitute every word in the statement with 6-7 words each. And often if possible, simpler words are replaced with jargons or un-understandable terms; words that you only come across once in a bluemoon. To put it simply, it is written not for the average peasants(common folks like you and me).

I could have list many examples, but because of the 'in' thing now - copyright infringement, I am not going to risk getting sued. I contemplated seeking permission, but that thought ended almost as soon as I realise how dumb it would sound, to tell the authorities I need to extract part of their text, so that I can make fun of it on my blog. So instead, I believe a self modified phrase from the book should sufficiently illustrate my point. See:

"write on a paper, being a paper that is given or sent to an (individual), any matter that is material to the contract and is false or misleading in a material particular ;"

which really mean: "false information written on a paper to an individual, that would lead to implications on the contract"

And that would be my m5 'story', next, I will be whining how I spent much of the past week trying to register for my ACCA exams. ACCA december examinations have to be registered and paid by 15th October every year. And the exam fees have to be paid in pounds only. For students like me, at the other end of the globe, we can only pay through 2 channels: by logging on to the student's personal account on ACCA's homepage and then pay with credit card; or go to a bank/post office and buy money order/bankdraft. Actually, I don't really know if it is money order, bank draft or other means, I only know the procedure is to go to the bank to buy 'this thing' and mail to ACCA UK. And the payment have to reach ACCA UK by 15th Oct, which means the mail have to be sent something like 1 week before 15th Oct. Another thing, they were suppose to mail me a package, which would have my userid and password in it, that would allow me to log into the ACCA homepage and register for my exams.

The amazing thing is, up to this very moment, I have yet to receive the package, though I did received an email last week, informing me of my student id and assuring me I would receive my package soon, and that I should wait patiently. But since my coursemates have already received their passwords and registered for their exams, I was getting anxious and so decided to head down to ACCA Singapore office. ACCA Singapore explained that the "package" thing is handled by ICPAS(a Singapore accounting body), and contacted them to enquire on my behalf. I was told the "package" is in the midst of processing and to wait 1 more week. They gave me the ICPAS number to call if I still didn't receive the package by this week.

I called yesterday and was told I can make payments for the exams at ICPAS office. That would be Aljunied. So yesterday after my lesson, I went. But I was dumb to not realise the payment method at Aljunied would still be either via credit card or "bankdraft"(poor people like me don't have a credit card). As I went after my lesson, the banks were already closed. It was a wasted trip. But I was advised to use my userid, which would be the student id I received in the email, and use the forget password option on ACCA homepage - to obtain a new password. I head home to try that trick, and received my password!

But as true as what you see on the television, "every 8 minutes there is someone signing up for ACCA", "450000 people sat for the ACCA examinations during the last seating"; I was unable to log in due to heavy traffic. Since last night, I tried a few times but was always shown the heavy traffic message. Feeling frustrated, I thought I can try my luck by repeatedly attempting to log in with my new found userid and password. Afew hours ago, I tried again. I see a new message that says ACCA global is aware of the heavy traffic, and so some functions of the portal may not work, students are advised to register for their exams only. Then, I met with a new problem. My account has been locked due to multiple failed login attempts. Talking about security...
