cement; sand; concrete? or soil?

SP Diploma in Building and Property Management graduate. I knew I had got myself into the wrong course since way back during the very first week. What is so nice about cement; sand; concrete? or soil? The shows/dramas on TV that always picture the mega rich as contractors or in the construction industry can only happen to you if your name is Xiang Hai or Ya Nan. The construction industry is an expensive industry, up to thousands for a renovation work and up to millions for a construction project. But a Contractor's liabities are infinite; an Architect or Professional Engineer's responsibities lie beyond their workscope; and a site staff risk accidents day in day out. My good friend, coincidentally name Kelvin, was a 'DBPM fanatic'. His enthusiasm for the course is admirable and he scores distinctions, distinctions and distinctions. The few weeks prior graduation we talked about his plan to further his studies. He would work for a year, gain the 'experience' for his future resume and then take up a building-related degree. We met recently at a exclassmate's birthday party. Kelvin told me he would most probably be doing a business degree; he wants to get out of the 'building' industry.

OR in simple English, the building and construction industry sucks.

Of the Far East Organisations, Jurong Town Corporations, Keppel Lands, how many(pronounce as few) others are earning a similar keep and enjoying their work? Unless you find joy in looking at big, immovable, mostly rectangular blocks for 5, 10, 20 years; else opt for a business degree or if your result slips are shameful and better off kept away - like mine, grumble as you start preparing for the not so bright future.
