The not really National Day post
After I had virtually disappeared for months, I am finally back doing what I always enjoy doing, to whine; to sulk; to complain. Blogging has always been a chore for a lazy fella, a lazy fella who dreads going out when he is at home, a lazy fella who dreads the journey home when he is out, a lazy fella like me. Yet I have decided to blog again despite the strong protests in my mind. It is perhaps also fitting that I start blogging now since my birthday is just a couple of weeks away. This way, I can have a pre-birthday entry for my wishlist. (note: very strong hint dropped)
Recently, there have been some kind of an uproar in the Singapore blogosphere. (not that I know how they derive at this word, but I would have preferred something like blogatmos, it'd be a more happening choice) We have bloggers whom got invited to la-kopi with the men in blue, we have more and more blogger celebrities, and we have the "mime" craze in the internet world. I shall not comment on the first point since coffee is not my cup of tea. Blogger celebritites, sorry to say, are not celebrity bloggers no matter how many alphabets they have in common. In my (humblest) opinion, people seem to be enjoying the fame of being famous on the internet. First we have Superhero Lim and his much self publicised web page. Then we have XX, Mrbrown and miyagi's rather entertaining blogs. And then we have our home made video that made us a globally famous city. Followed by Dawn Yeo and a host of other blogger celebrities. At this point I must reiterate that my point was I am "shocked", "astonished", "baffled" at the sudden influx of blogger (to be precise, internet) celebrities. But I do not anti them. I don't go on hate campaigns that anti them! In fact, I stated earlier that I find XX, mrbrown, etc. 's blog entertaining (well, sometimes). To the early bandwagon of "scouts" whom are jumping at the first opportunity to slate me for being "jealous" of their success, can I remind you that I am not even a "fulltime" blogger to begin with so this ain't sour grapes. I only blog because I enjoy doing so(I enjoy whining don't you get it?) and I blog what I feel like blogging about. There is a difference between me and them.
Next point, the "mime" craze. This is something I read off the Straits Times a couple of days back. I am not very sure what this is about. (was just flipping through the papers then) But I remember it's something to do with net-users writing up about Singapore. (probably what they think or feel?) I tried to google to find out about this "mime" thing but to no avail. Can anybody tell me what it is about? Now I am really kicking myself for not really reading that article then.
