Kelvin Yeo
Today's entry is going to be slightly different, I am going to blog about myself. To startoff, I am going to introduce myself. I am Kelvin Yeo; as if you people don't already know. I am born in island city Singapore, in 1984. According to the Chinese zodiaclogical studies, I am a rat, but the English horoscopical signs would have you believe I am a lion. Not that it makes much of a difference anyway since the rats are "champions" and the Leos are "special" people. Proud and confident are traits of a typical Leo. I grew up with my grandparents at the tranquil Pandan Gardens and am very close to my grandmother who doted on me most. I would never ever be able to make it up to her or credit her enough for what shes done for me, but just recalling some of the many things she did would still bring a tear to my eye. When I attended Qifa Primary School, she would visit me everyday, although her aging legs meant she have to go through huge barriers of pain to do that. Back then, my dad would give her an extra $30 a month, on top of the meagre fee she received for looking after me, as pocket money for me for school. But I got $3 - $5 everyday. And is she rich? She would packet a $2 noodle for me while she would just make do with a 60 cents economical bee hoon. You decide.
It is during my Primary School days that I made some lifelong friends whom I still hang around with fortnightly; weekly; or afew times a week. After graduation, I moved on to Tanglin Secondary School and was blessed to be part of the class of 1997 - 2000. Incredible people, lasting memories; though I thought I was more of a "did this guy really attended Tanglin during that period?", or low-profile-boy. And I still kept in contact with some of my secondary school friends through our occasional football kickabout sessions, particularly our group from NCC. And of course for the next 1 year plus I would definitely be seeing more of Lawrence, Ivan Kong & Songting(the same batch of Tanglinians) in and around my area since we are in the same squadron. The Polytechnic lifestyle must be a heaven for everybody. It should be for me. But it wasn't to be. Just the 1st week into the course and I already know I got myself into the wrong course, the wrong polytechnic. No disrespect to Singapore Polytechnic or the School of Design and Built or whatever it's ever changing name is now. The jaw dropping ratio of 16 females to 4 males did little to motivate me. Although I must admit I am quite a lucky bastard to have stunning beauties(in my opinion; come on... you know my expectations are high!) in my class throughout my course. It was Diploma in Building and Property Management. Nice name? I certainly thought so. But 3 1/2 years of nightmarish lectures; examinations; projects ensued, making dead sure I leave the Polytechnic with a horrific image of sand, cement, concrete, steel, nails, paint in mind. The underpaid overworked high risk building sector is not for me. It would be suicidal if I didn't mention the great pals I made in SP, after I had already done so for Qifa and Tanglin.
Along the little journey in my life, I did quite a few short term; parttime work. To the best of my memory, I remember I worked in both Chinese and English restaurants before. As a waiter of course. You wouldn't be guessing was I working as a chef would you? I worked at Clementi Gardens Seafood Restaurant with my primary school friend, my primary school friend's secondary school friend, and my secondary school friend. I deliberately mentioned the earlier line to confuse you. I also worked at Jurong Town Council, and ABV Systems(a micro piling company) during my Polytechnic attachments. The ABV stint was memorable for I was working for their Bright Hill temple project and report for work there everyday. I have to mention I was a temporary staff for Opus IT Services; doing asset taggings for their client, Mobile1; for a period. Another notable mention is that I was with Business Edge Personnel Services before my enlistment. There, I worked as a flyer distributor for Moscow Circus, in clown suit. So if you have any vague memories of a clown distributing flyers to you, it could be me! June 2005, gloomy. I enlist into this wonderful company Mohawk in BMTC. I could have gone on and wrote another 1000 words on life in Mohawk but the military law forbids. I can only say I am still serving my MANdatory sentence.
Next I shall touch on what people say about me.
always smiling - I have been wearing that smile on my face for years now that it has become natural-to-smile. Sometimes I don't even know I am smiling. I can't understand why people worry so much when they see somebody greeting them with a smile. But whenever people commented that I am always smiling, I would always just laugh off and give the excuse that I am friendly. But the real reason is because my face is stern if I don't smile, and I can't bring myself to be 'cold' to friendly strangers. Also, I am only smiling to strangers or not so close friends. If I know you well, you would be missing that friendly smile.
hum - All my online friends believed I am hum. None of my friends I know outside thought so.
afro(mushroom) hair - thick since birth but have since found my cure in the form of Jantzen. I just have to visit Jantzen every fortnightly. Wait, they grow that fast too?
attractive eyes ugly mouth - might look like Daniel Chan but don't ever let him hear that or he would lose all confidence and have sleepless nights. I mean if you only consider certain features then everybody could look like anybody. Just like some of the aunties who said I look like Aaron Kwok. If you believe why. It is because of that similar crop of mushroom hair that coincidentally happens to have a line in the middle, which resembles Aaron's trademark centre parking that made him so famous.
And of course what I really am...
gambling addict - fact. I am more interested in daidee, mahjong and football betting though.
clubber - not your beau who drives a fast car and open bottles every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. I used to go Chinablack but have since switched to dbl-O and Phuture. I would like my poor first impression of MOS to change soon.
born a Reds always a Reds - I fell in love with Liverpool Football Club when I was 11. I worship Robbie "God" Fowler. I play like Robbie Fowler, less the goals...
my music "taste" - I like Sun Yanzi, she sings really well. I like Linkin Park and ShiN Xin Yue Tuan styled rock music. I like the odd songs now and then but I don't know which genre they belong to. Perhaps somebody can tell me the similarities between Kelly Clarkson's Walk Away, Alicia Key's Karma and Fat Joe & Ja Rule & Ashanti's What's Luv? Maybe it's in the lyrics. I like songs with an Indian-touch as well. Like Kevin Lyttle's Tempted To Touch; Turn Me On, Sean Paul's Temperature, Panjabi MC's Mundian To Bach Ke, Truth Hurts's Addictive(dirty). And I like Chinese KTV songs as well. Eason's Shi Nian; Xiong Mei, Guang Liang's Di Yi Chi; Tong Hua, Zhou Jie Lun's Jie Kou; Ge Qian; Shan Hu Hai, etc.
my woman "taste" - A few friends have commented the standards I look for in girls are too high. I agree to a certain extent. I love Ayumi Hamasaki. I like girls whom are slim not skinny, big eyes that compliment her face not scare people away, and cute girls that melt me at first sight. It is indeed very high standards because everytime my friends praised any girl's beauty, I would just feel they are normal looking. I won't deny I would consider looks if I am ever looking for a girlfriend. First impression is important, otherwise there wouldn't be such a thing as love at first sight, and looks play a big part in first impression. However, that is not to say I judge a person completely by their looks. People with poor or bad character would turn me off no matter how good they look.
generous and thrifty - They go together don't they? Quote Junyu "Kelvin is generous with his money". I am definitely generous. I bought jerseys that cost hundred over dollars before. I play mahjong with a dare attitude, upholding the spirit of hionging. and I dare to bet big too. Not exactly Du Jia Cang or show hand styles, but quite a lot of money considering I am poor. I can be thrifty IF I WANT. I have proved time and again I can control myself well and spend to a minimum. Don't be surprise if I tell you I can go half a year without spending a single cent.
filial? - with a ? behind. As I mentioned earlier, I am very close to my grandmother. I used to be 100% filial to her. Accompanying her to wherever she go, giving her money, and dropping by her place regularly. But unfortunately I am no longer as saintly as before. I do hope I can visit her again soon though.
who am I really? - I have become numb of everything, I am breaking the habit. Its crawling under my skin. I am going to faint. I am still searching for somewhere I belong. But in the end, it doesn't even matter. Hmmm.
And alright finally the last paragraph of this loooooooooooooooooooooonnng entry. My future plans. I plan to go for the lasik operation for my eyes. And then I would get my driving license. And then I would go for a holiday after I ORD, I need a break badly. And then I would try to get myself into Singapore Institute of Management, hopefully getting a Bacherlor of Business(Accountancy). And then...
